Okay, so number 2 in the Christmas chart isn't bad for a 14 year-old cover by a dead guy, but the fact that the world (well, this country) must be subjected to the atrocious, overblown, point-missing piece of dog excrement that is the X-Fuckter version is upsetting.
Very upsetting.
Interesting side-note: Guess what just missed out on the top-ten this year, coming in at number 12?
jeff buckley's rendition of 'hallelujah' is amazing...he was a truly inimitable artiste. : ) i just watched alexandra burke's version on youtube...dun really like it...although she does have a big voice...
When I sat there and saw that she was to sing Hallelujah as the winners song, I wanted to throw my TV out the window.
Buckley's is a version that should not be competed with unless it's perfect. Which Alexandra's isn't!
I was going to say, "Goddammit, I can't see your vids on my phone!", but then I saw the mention of the key change, and I'm kinda glad I can't watch it. It would totally fuck with my head and suck whatever talent I have straight outta my head and disperse it into the stratosphere, never to be heard again.
I don't mind others doing it, as long as they understand what they're doing. The X-Fuckter version is done by a troup of tone-deaf gibbons who couldn't produce good music if they were injected with the essence of the Beatles.
And on't fret, gypsy, I wouldn't sully my blog by posting that version. The first vid is Buckley's version.
I almost managed to steer completely clear of X-Factor this year. I watched a woman and a band perform a Take That song each (and murder them - which I never thought was possible seen as TT were never THAT great), and then some blurb about BRITNEY SPEARS IS HERE!!!! and I switched it off.
Jeff Buckley ftw, and Fairytale of New York for the even bigger win.
Britney Spears was on a few weeks back. Apparently she mimed her way through the performance and one of the guests they had on the sister show went on a rant about how pathetic it was, given she was appearing on a show of amateurs singing live every week.
(they covered all this on the radio, by the way - I managed to avoid this last series in its entirety :)
