This is...Surprising

I love Snow Patrol's Run. I have done since the second time I heard it. The first was its debut play on Zane Lowe's evening show on Radio1. It was playing in the background while I was in the middle of a heavy writing session, so was listening just enough to know I liked it. When 10pm rolled around and I finally closed up my laptop, cutting off the only light in the kitchen at the time, the song was played again. I layed my head on the table and listened intently. When the rise in the instrumental break hit, I actually shed a tear.

No song has ever made me shed a tear!

The point is, given my love for the song, I'd have been pretty miffed to hear anyone attempt to cover it, let-alone some warbling bint from a TV talent show!

However:

The fact that she repeated the first chorus rather than include the second is a shame, but let's face it, it's a minor quibble.

Still, nothing beats the original:

(had to use a fan vid because the official one is of the cut-down single version of the song - plus, any excuse to show off the marvelousness that is Doctor Who)

Who's singing the first? Almost sounds like Sarah Maclachlan in parts?

I much prefer the snow patrol one.

Oh great, it's not enough I cry like an otter everytime I see "Doomsday", now you stick a video here with sappy music to add to the sadness. You suck. *lurks off to cry*

Del - It's Leona Lewis; the last winner of X-Factor, which is a TV singing contest that until now has only produced talentless pretty boys whose careers have lasted all of one single.

It was looking to be the same for her. She had last year's Christmas number one (off the back of the show), then predictably vanished without a trace. 10 months later she releases a single that isn't gut-wrenchingly nauseating, and manages a pretty damned good cover in Jo Whiley's Live Lounge.

Dante - sorry about that. There was one with some Final Fantasy footage, but none of it was from VII, so I wasn't particularly interested.

I'll post some hardcore rock'n'roll later so you can feel more manly ;)

Ack. Snow Patrol. I'd rather jab knitting needles into my ears. Once again the Annoying Voice of Doom manages to make a well written song into a dirge. I prefer the Leona Lewis version.
